Shrimp and Basketball

Project 365
Monday
02.09.09

Maybe it's the red bowl but this picture doesn't do our dinner justice. We had boiled shrimp with melted butter and cocktail sauce. Yummy! After dinner we retired to the family room to watch the MU/KU basketball game. It was in CoMo so every time the tv panned the crowd we were searching for familiar faces. Tigers struggled throughout the game but managed to pull it together to win. Go Tigers!

Math Van

Lindsay has been a part of a research study since kindergarten. It is being conducted by the University of Missouri. I was afraid when we moved to Kansas she would have to drop out. Fortunately there is a van that comes to the kids. I was astounded to hear that they would come all the way here. I'm glad though. I think that long term research can better prove theories and can show patterns. This study is tracking children and math through the school years. Interestingly enough when we moved here there was a great hullabaloo in CoMo concerning teaching methods in the schools there. Columbia Public schools have since decided to go back to a more traditional approach. When Lindsay started school in the Shawnee Mission district she was almost two years behind her peers in math. She has had additional tutoring this year that is helping her catch up.

I had to work and it was a beautiful day. Paul took the kids and Hobbs to Pleasant Hill for a round of disc golf. Hobbs appeared to enjoy the car ride very much!

One sock, Two sock

Project 365
Friday 02.06.09

This is a beautiful sight to me. Stacks of clean, neatly folded clothes and piles of matched socks. Too bad I put away the even white towers of fresh towels before I thought to get my camera. I finally caught up the laundry. I spent Thursday evening folding while changing the loads over from washer to dryer to table. I finished on Friday morning. When I do a load or two every few days and fold straight out of the dryer then I keep up. Occasionally I don't do that for one reason or another. Since we spent last weekend in Columbia and I haven't had a day off yet I had fallen behind. It seems like everyone else in this house is afraid/unaware/ unable to use the washer and dryer. I do have one iron clad rule about laundry. I will wash, dry and fold everyone's laundry. I will NOT gather and bring it to the laundry room. Nor will I return clean clothes to the owner's dresser or even bedroom. All clothes must be delivered to the laundry room or they will not be laundered. I really don't mind folding laundry. Especially towels. I could fold towels all day. Ok, not really but you get the idea. I love my Fisher/Paykel washer and dryer too. Does that make me weird? But I'm not a maid so I have to set some guidelines to prevent them from treating me that way!

Scrapbook Page

Project 365
Thursday 2.5.09

Julie and I went to a store on Shawnee Mission Parkway called "The Scrapbook Page" today. It is a popular store here. I found this cool piece of Coca-Cola paper. I also found some SMNW paper that I will use for Adam later. I know he still has two years til graduation but I want to be prepared. They had lot of things that we don't carry at our store. A lot of things we do carry too. I heard that Archiver's is the Nordstrom's of scrapbooking. I guess I can understand that but I have never considered myself to be an "upscale" person so it felt wierd to hear that and realize that is where I work. Mostly, I just love being in such a creative environment each day. It's very satisfying. Paul also started his new (temporary?) gig this morning on98.1 KUDL. He sounded great and loved being in the studio with a partner again. Let's hope it works out so he can keep me supplied with scrap materials in the manner to which I have become accustomed! JK, let's hope it becomes permanent so we can pay the bills!

Milkshakes

Project 365
Wednesday 2.04.09

Paul bought me a Cusinart blender fro Christmas 2007. It is an awesome piece of machinery. I think that he really bought it for himself though! My little family loves milkshakes, especially chocolate-banana milkshakes. We pulled out the blender for the first time this year. Yummy! Maybe one day we will use the blender for other foods but for now I believe shake fixin's are the only item to touch the inside of this favorite kitchen tool.
