Winter Woes
Winter has arrived in Kansas. We got about 2 inches of sloppy snow yesterday. It started about ten in the morning and snowed all day. By the time evening rush hour arrived it was a MESS! Thank heavens we moved in the summer. I learned to navigate the highways in good weather and wasn't too unnerved driving in the weather last night. I am glad that I don't have to use 435. It was a virtual parking lot last night. Lots of acccidents and cars off the road. Why don't people realize that slow and steady wins the race? Have they read the fable of the tortoise and the hare? I was amazed at the reckless way some drivers were operating their vehicles. I have a big 4WD truck that makes me feel safer but I don't think it makes me impervious to the weather. Some drivers were just zipping past pokey old me driving no more than 40 mph. Of course, I made it home safely and just shook my head when I later saw the same cars in the ditch.
I long for the pioneer days. Just lay in supplies and when the Big Storm hits, snuggle down and stay inside. I have always said I would make a great bear. I would love to hibernate for the winter. I could scrap, watch movies, read books etc. There is a lot to be said for the good ole homestead. I hate having to get up earlier to scrape the car off and heat it up. I detest the extra time it takes to get out the door in the morning. Coats, gloves, hats, scarves, boots. Ice melt on the front steps. Shovel the driveway. School closings (or not). I love Spring. Just my keys, my phone and my purse and away I go. So much simpler. It's gonna be a looooong winter. Brrr....
